This is such an inspiring story, it just reminded me of the scripture in Isaiah

Isaiah 11:6 (New King James Version)

6 “ The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.

Some people just seem to live in this state already, at peace with even the most base creatures, we seem to think that this is saved till the time of heaven……all in the future, a hope!

I also remember reading about St Francis of Assisi and his ability to tame wild beasts, also Sadhu Sundar Sing had a story of taming a wild tiger ravaging Indian stocks………….also the Apocrypha has some interesting stories pertaining to Jesus and animals…….

Folk stories?

Tradition?

Religious embellishments?

When I read stories like the below I have to think twice

South        African Park        Ranger

This Ranger is assigned to prevent poaching around the wildlife refuge area of Lanseria , South Africa .The way these animals interact with him is absolutely stunning!
The lions seem to know he’s there to protect them.
His charm works with hyenas and lions too. Hyenas are usually vicious.
Check out the pics taken in the river – amazing because lions hate water.

I am organising in association with John 14:12 sponsoring women from the beginning to the end of their pregnancy, supporting them financially/ emotionally and spiritually. Baseco women predominantly birth at home in the slum, some with no electricity by candle light and no running water even with limited and dirty shelter, because they have literally no money to spend on a hospital birth. They birth with or without a traditional birth attendant who are untrained and have questionable practices….

So we sponsor them providing a Hospital Birth, transport to and from hospital for a monthly checkup, pregnancy vitamins, injections for tetanus and Hepatitis, the baby’s immunisations and newborn screening. It is a package deal!!!

Being an eternal optimist is not always a comfortable place……

Sometimes when life is a little pressured and sad no one believes that you are struggling or really wants to know

Even as I write I feel a pressure

There are many people out there who suffer in a far greater way than me, and when I think of suffering I scoff because my suffering pales into nothing as I see others in other countries and circumstances crushed by their lives

What have I got to complain about, in reality nothing.

But in many ways I am still human and feel and groan and weep……….the balance is allusive to me

I am alone but never alone

I am pained but not crushed

I feel grief but not despair

I am sad but not without joy

So many people live and die without any relief from these things, I cringe for them and weep for them

They suffer and die without consolation and healing in their hearts…….

I am a priveledged person…..

I have the Healer that heals all wounds and cares with love deeper than a man….

Nevertheless

Human and a woman, I suppose I feel and beat different to the men in my life…..

They must think I am mad, or maybe just a woman

Oh well I cannot help who I am emotion and all

I am just who I am

Just me!

Isaiah 61:3

He gave me beauty for ashes

The oil of joy for mourning

The garment of praise

For the spirit of heaviness

That we might be trees of righteousness

The planting of the Lord

That He might be glorified

They fare well usually but once in a while we are struck with the “COMPETITIVE FAILURE SYNDROME” (CFS) my name!!

You know………….”Why aren’t I good enough?”, “Why does she win all the time?”, “I am just hopeless”, “I want to win a medal too”

Each of my children have gone through this CURVE,

Interestingly enough it also went hand in hand with the “BAD SPORT SYNDROME” (BSS)

You know that one too………………”I want to win!!”, “That’s not fair, she won……” , “He is such a show off”

I am challenged EACH time I am faced with the syndromes……here are some thoughts that have evolved over 17 years and a teaching background………….

As a mum my heart reaches out to my kids when they suffer from CFS or BSS, sometimes it does not seem fair that their legs do not run fast enough or they cannot step or co-ordinate as fast as another child……..their heart cry breaks my heart as they compare themselves with their peers and strangers………

BUT

As an educator and a spiritual/moral development supervisor I have a choice, I can yield to their heart cry and be sorry that their pride/self concept has been deflated or choose to use this experience as a platform to teach them what “winning” really means.

For this reason I embrace the Olympics and regularly do projects on the Olympics with my kids, I think it is great for my kids to see athletes compete to see people win and loose at this HIGH level is a treat.

Most athletes at this stage have learnt how to deal with failure they carry themselves with integrity and honour, this is a pleasure to see. What I find inspiring is the stories BEHIND the athletes…..the YEARS of training, the YEARS of sacrifice, the YEARS of pushing themselves to new heights……it is no surprise that the Apostle Paul uses the picture of an athlete to represent spiritual growth and maturation.

My dad also has had years of playing sport at a competitive level, as a league football player he has won and failed. He has coached and developed younger boys in the sport, and regularly teaches my kids the importance of winning and loosing with a GOOD spirit.

As a teacher I admit I do have mixed feelings about competition…….it can be of great good BUT great evil if not handled correctly. I have seen people permanently scarred by being forced to do sports where they ONLY failed, or were heartlessly ridiculed by peers for failure……even some who have succeeded have had scars…….I was taught that everyone should win and you make ALL children winners in their own right, you know give everyone a trophy or NO-ONE…….

BUT

I have had to come to see that in reality we work on a REWARD basis in the world/work and school system………we earn the right to go to University through study, we earn the right to promotions in work by working and performing well, we earn the right to gold medals in the Olympics by sheer hard work and talent………………

So we really must train our kids to win and be rewarded in a RIGHT WAY and also fail and be disappointed in a RIGHT WAY!!!

But there is a factor I feel we may miss in our world………

We HAVE to find where our kids are going to achieve, there is no point in making a square peg fit in a round hole, we must, we must, we must find the round kid peg for the round kid hole. We must find where our kids succeed and focus on that, help them to succeed and rise……………

I am convinced that children, boys especially, will ALWAYS be competitive, it is in their nature and even genetics!! But how they win and how they cope with failure in these early days will mould and shape who they are in the future. They need to learn how to fail with grace and beauty, there is nothing wrong with disappointment in performance as long as it leads to a positive outcome, not destruction of personal fibre and others around them.

Just a few of my CFS and BSS combat points, these of course are scaled the age of my children

Play for enjoyment first, remember Eric Liddle in Chariots of Fire……..”When I run I feel God’s pleasure”

Play or perform to improve NOT to win

If you medal/score or place see it as a bonus not as the goal of the day

If you have done your best let God take care of the rest

You are good no matter what the score says

If you do not practice then do not expect to excel…put the YARDS in and you will see results, what you sow you will reap

Work always to being happy and pleased when others win and succeed!

Disappointment with yourself is fine, do not blame others or circumstances for failure

Recognise your limits and rejoice and accept them

You must realise that even if life you will not always win and succeed even with God

Failure is the biggest way to learn

Experiences can make you BITTER or BETTER you choose

Do you have anymore CFS combat points you use for your kids???

I would love to hear them…..please leave you comment here…………..

Ok so I think it’s time I got back here… It’s been a while… my intentions have been good… but intentions don’t do anything lol…

Wow, what a journey. I am back into the swing of things with homeschooling and it has been interesting after such a long holiday (that only seemed like it lasted a week :-).

Have been rediscovering a book on Experiencing God. It talks about the seven realities of God which are challenging and awesome all in one. I’ll tell you just a few. But if any of you are wanting to hone in on what God is saying to you at this particular time then I recommend this book.

Reality Two is that God pursues a love relationship with each one of us. How true is that!? He draws us, woos us, and then just like in our relationships with others He shapes us… the more time we spend in The Light, the more the darkness is dispelled. Unless we run from the light so we can keep it “hidden”… but I am trying not to do that. My thoughts are, that it might be a bit painful to begin with but if I can just hold on, it’ll get lovelier as I am more like Jesus.

Reality Three: God invites us to join in on what He is doing. He has a place for all of us in different capacities to serve Him and His world. We just need to see where the invitation is. We can fill our lives with many things, but a friend of mine once said: “the need is not the call”. I thought he had rocks in his head, but I’m beginning to see what He means. We can be so busy we miss what God is trying to say and do. And sometimes we leave no room for him to steer us. Even when we have the right intentions (there’s that dreaded word again-intentions)

Now I’ll jump to Reality Six. Major adjustments are required to join in with what GOd is doing. Whether those major adjustments are in the physical or emotional or spiritual it is true. When God speaks, it requires faith and action. Faith that God will do what He says He will do, but obedience to jump out and stand on His word (which actually shows that we really are believing what He says). We can say we believe, but unless we do something about it then we don’t really believe it in our heart of hearts…

That brings me to the seventh reality- my fav one. That we experience God as we are obedient to His call.

I’ll give you an example from my life.

God lavishes His love on me and that allows me to see some unforgiveness in my life. He invites me to take His yoke which is easy and burden which is light, instead of my own heavy weighted heart of bitterness.

When I acknowledge I want to do that it requires me to have a “crisis of belief” (reality five) that requires faith and action. I need to choose to lay down MY rights and injustice and forgive which can be quite a major adjustment. Releasing that person who hurt me from judgements I had on them and giving up the right to harp on how I have been wronged and let my heart forgive (with God’s help)

This then frees me to experience God’s forgiveness and love, and I experience the “God who has caused me to forget”. We may remember the incident but the pain has been removed and placed at the foot of the cross. We are now carrying a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light.

There are other examples; like when God calls us to move to join what He is doing.

Anyways, hope this had made sense…

God longs for His people. He loves us with an everlasting love. And He wants to be involved intimately with our lives!!! The CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE converses with me!… I just need to stop and listen.

Well this year is evolving into a new adventure in our school world

Master J is turning 17 this year and is embarking on Year 11, wow this was a little intimidating for me personally but we were facing it bravely……I felt strongly that I was not going to sacrifice his education for my “ideal” (please take what I am saying in the spirit It was intended) so I was constantly looking for alternatives and extensions to MY offered school experience

Master J has had a desire to design ever since he began to play with Lego, and scribble things and plans down ranging from “battle plans” to Sim City type games on the computer……he loved the order and the system and the geometry and the design mixed with creativity too…it is interesting he is a first born with great organisational abilities but balenced with a huge creative slant (I was exactly the same as a teen too had a great prepensity to the creative arts BUT could not bear to spend all of my to time doing it like an artist would, so decided that a teaching degree would be a great and PRACTICAL second) I was and AM such a firstborn!! So is Josh!!

So Master J set his aim on Tertiary Education and an Engineering/Design course….my course was set too….I have to facilitate with him to achieve his goal, this was something that I was NOT going to fail him in!

In my thinking it was clear, what a shame we do all this hard work for years and not get him to an academic or social/emotional/spiritual standard to achieve and not sink in the BIG world…….that was not an option in my mind. I would find a way, I would not cease until I found something that suited my standards and family situation.

Our family situation was complicated too, missions and travel has become a big part of our lives, to me Moscow and Edinburgh Tattoos are vital and immeasurable LIFE experiences that will imprint my kids forever…..as for Manila everyone who has followed my blogs KNOW the impact that experience has had on my kids, I would not change that for a million bucks!! So school had to FIT this family choice we had made…….seemed like a toooooooo hard call……but I think that we had some help from the eye that never sleeps and loves us endlessly, His hand was in everything we did and do

Psalm 37:23-24 (New King James Version)

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.
<sup>24</sup> Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the LORD upholds him with His hand.

Anyway……………..

We actually ended up looking Open Access College (like long distance ed through the phone and internet hook ups)

We were initially looking for Design and Technology courses (CAD programmes etc, ) but once I saw what they offered and the flexibility that actually FITTED into my ideal (and J’s for that matter) I WAS SOLD!

WEEEELLLL was I impressed from the outset, the friendly staff and non-judgemental attitudes was only the start!

Our counsellor we saw was open and excited, she saw the work that J had achieved just from what we discussed (the Moscow Tattoo, the trip to Manila and the upcoming Tattoo in Edinburgh) she immediately began to explain that we could get credit for these LIFE EXPERIENCES that go towards his SACE score…….that excites me. Finally a “school” that was open and flexible enough to see with eyes that go beyond the 3R’s……that experiences matter, and life skills are vital to achievement in the future.

So as we were winding up with some work/books this year I decided to bite the bullet and enroll him in subjects that will give him points towards his SACE. How exciting!! I also have the flexibility to keep plodding with the things I WANT him to learn still…….now that is what I have always wanted also.

Now Master J will relate to 4 teachers as well as me…great preparation for tertiary, but we still have a certain amount of control over the “environment” through the telephone he can still be at home in my care……how neat is that!

He will work over 3 years (maybe more) in his SACE…….and will streamline down to subjects that give him a TER score for entrance into Uni…..all with someone who KNOWS the system and can work it better than I ever could! Why 3 years and not the traditional 2, I guess why NOT?? Why the rush? Why the push? When kids like Master J have a multitude of commitments outside school the extra time is a boon……no rush and pressure either. No problem if he wants to do more mission trips either…all achievable. Besides I am convinced boys and lads are NOT ready at 17ish to make impacting life changing decisions why not leave it till later???

So he will embark on 4 subjects this semester and 2 next (coinciding with a self study unit on The Edinburgh Tattoo) which will all sow points into his SACE score……….I am relieved to tell you all the truth and encouraged that God saw my need and supplied……

Only believe homeschoolers, He is interested in the least and greatest things we attempt………

I say I am a blessed Mum and Teacher!

Homeschool Makeover

Does your homeschool need a “Makeover?” Are you like me in need of an “Intervention?” Can you relate to my experience?

In Preschool the “world was our oyster.” We would homeschool when we wanted to and where we wanted. We even homeschooled at Starbuck’s over a 2 shot soy latte, and a child’s Frappucino. Life was good!

Then age 4 came around with a cold chill; and we decided it was time to bunker down. Expensive DVDs were ordered; and Mom’s frown became her accessory of choice- because it was time to get serious! And serious he got. No playgroup in the morning any more. Baby sister had to be kept away for serious kindergarten work was occurring. The musty storage room was turned into a school with creaky desk and all.

It went on like this for a year, until I realized “this was no fun!” The breaking point for me was when my child said to me, “you’re not my teacher, Mrs. _____ (the Video Teacher) is my teacher.” No more! I was going to be the creative Supermommy Homeschool Star that I knew was buried inside of me. We were going to have a HOMESCHOOL MAKEOVER!

Out went the creaky desk, and in came the butterflies. Out went the workbooks, and in came the “Magic School Bus.” If it wasn’t hands-on, I was hands-off. If it didn’t require a field trip, I left it out in left field. However, in our homeschool bliss one major problem occurred. That same child that could sit for 4 hours through a school completely on DVD, was now climbing on the walls and thought he was a butterfly when it was needed to sit and learn. There is only so many field trips one can take to teach a kid to write his name! And this creative Homeschool Diva was ready to hang up her boa, and call the Insane Asylum. I was so sure there was a special unit for homeschool moms who thought they could do it all!

Well, after being told I could not afford the padded walls on one income, I had to find another solution. I needed to give our family another “Homeschool Makeover!” It was time to make a change- but how- I wanted structure back.. but I wanted creativity too. Aha! My grand solution- structure for the core classes- and creativity in all the electives.

Ah! My golden moment of clarity! All it took was a little soul searching, and my Makeover Moment happened. Yours Can Too! It is never too late to have a Homeschool Makeover! And hey, maybe I’ll see you over a latte with your new homeschool accessory- a smile on your lips!

To my dear friends who have followed my trip to the Philippines, on Saturday night Baseco was ravaged by fire in an area called Gasangan, this may be a familiar because I had Birthing Classes there, I knew many mothers, babies and children, John 14:12 had a Church, shelter, precious leaders, church members, pedicab drivers there too, now the pedicabs are burnt ruins, the area once packed with people and houses is a burning flattened smouldering mess. At the height of the fire there looked like 20-40 foot flames!

The reports are sketchy but we believe that 800 families have lost their homes and lives were lost……what a tradgedy!

Another disaster and setback for these struggling people, please pray, pray for individual mothers and their children now homeless…….their homes were humble and simple usually made from Bamboo, coconut wood, plastic and some tin…….but they were “home” to the family…………

The housing materials were simple however made a flammable fire trap also, open fires and candles are a constant risk………dry hot weather was another factor. I am devastated that we are not there to help and comfort…….

To my faithful followers, please pray especially for these precious mothers just like you and I who live, have a family, cook clean and strive to better their families, those who once had a little “something” now have nothing…..God help them!

PS I have just heard that the fire stopped 3 houses from the church, thank you God!!

I wanted to share some sermons that God laid on my heart when I was in Baseco………..that way I can remember them and record them, not that they are really profound or deep, they are really one older mum sharing and speaking to other women and like….but they may hit a cord in some one else…..God is like that

My heart often cries out for people who feel UNEQUIPPED or IMMATURE or UNSKILLED as Christians. In the world we often find that age, sex, health, education or even personality type work against us achieving goals and aspirations….but in The Kingdom things are very different………..God does not look at these kind of externals in fact He prefers not to, in some way confounding the senses of man, and using the unusable despite their abilities or lack of.

There is one example in scripture that JUMPED out and caught my attention whilst I was away it was found in 1 Chron 18:14

1 Chronicles 18:14-17 (New King James Version)

David’s Administration

14 So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people. 15 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16 Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; Shavsha[a]was the scribe; 17 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers at the king’s side.

The great King David was establishing his anointed rule and reign over his people, he had a team of men he appointed to help him administer judgement and justice…they included trusted friends and advisers from his years of struggles and hiding from Saul people who had showed commitment and loyalty and most importantly love to him. These men included Joab, Jehosophat and Abimalech just to name a few………….names we have read about as they battled by David’s side.

BUT

There is an addition to these men, in verse 17 it clearly says that……DAVID’S SONS WERE CHIEF MINISTERS AT THE SIDE OF DAVID…………

The Son’s of David were elevated above the mighty men from David’s past, the men who earnt David’s trust over the years and served him faithfully. These sons became CHIEF MINISTERS, meaning simply they were the 2IC (Second in Charge) they had the highest positions in the Kingdom under David, they had authority, power and position

We can also see from this scripture that David made ALL of his sons ministers, there was no evidence that he hand picked one or overlooked another but ALL of his sons were chief ministers at the kings side.

We also see another profound picture here, his sons had access to David at all times, THEY WERE AT THE KINGS SIDE………they were granted a privilege that perhaps the other leaders did not have, they were always at the King’s side, interacting and sharing his daily issues and routine.

SO WHAT DID THESE MEN DO TO EARN THEIR POSITION AT DAVID’S SIDE?

There is no doubt that some (if not all) of these men/sons were warriors and soldiers with David in his long battle with Saul,

No doubt that they were being trained and groomed in some ways, as son’s of David

But none of them made “names” for themselves, however in contrast Joab the mighty warrior made quite a name for himself with many mighty feats and deeds.

So what qualified these young men to serve as Chief Ministers at the hand and side of King David?

Their qualification was simply this

THAT THEY WERE SONS OF THE KING!

Interestingly enough there was NO mention of the son’s

* AGE
* ABILITY
* SKILLS
* SPIRITUAL EXPERTISE
* LEADERSHIP ABILITY
* PHYSICAL ABILITY
* PERSONALITY TYPE

They earnt their position and place from their RELATIONSHIP WITH THE KING, they were his sons!

This is the key to leadership and usefulness in the Kingdom

We too minister at our Father’s side like the son’s of David, we rule a Kingdom and have authority over this world…….we are His Chief Ministers, but the key to this awesome elevation of our status is that we are son’s and daughters of the King………..but the interesting thing is that God is our FATHER/KING without each facet we would not be SONS/JOINT RULER……..each facet must “marry” to have authority and power……….Leaders such as Joab had authority and power but lacked the intimacy with the king, he was not granted to “minister at the King’s side” maybe, just maybe, he would not have made such stupid mistakes later if he was intimate with David and knew his heart!!!

This intimacy with the Father (or any parental model) is obvious when you think of your own relationship with your parents…..if you have had a healthy relationship with your parents you would have had full access to the things that belong to the parents, I do not know what happens in your family but when I go to my Mum and Dad’s house I just walk in…..I may not even knock (hey they gave me the key!!) I just walk in and go to the pantry and help myself to food, I do not even think about it!! I just do it coz I know that they are my parents and they would not deprive me if I needed it! I have open access to them and what is theirs, I have intimacy with them, if they are sick/sad or mad they tell me, we are family, that is how it is!! Also if they asked me to do something for them if it was in my power I would do it, I would listen to them if they had something to say, or advise………I would do anything to make them happy……isn’t that how family is supposed to work???????

The picture of David gives us great hope, we are given full position and authority just like his sons as we enter into his SONSHIP, it is ours through our BIRTHRIGHT, we are heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus the Son of God (Romans 8:17). This gives us access to the KING, God Almighty…….but not as a hired hand or servant…..as a SON!!!

Interestingly enough God makes NO mention of our

* AGE
* ABILITY
* SKILLS
* SPIRITUAL EXPERTISE
* LEADERSHIP ABILITY
* PHYSICAL ABILITY
* PERSONALITY TYPE

He gives us everything including intimacy with Him and power to be who we are meant to be on the earth!

In fact I reckon that without the intimacy (without that Father/Son daughter relationship) we really have no real and lasting power or authority…………

Just some thoughts, let God be Dad and out of that relationship real power and authority will stem, life changing, impacting, soul saving power!

Bless you Cath

Begin reading your Bible this very day. The way to do a thing is to do it, and the way to read the Bible is actually to read it. It is not meaning, or wishing, or resolving, or intending, or thinking about it; that will not advance you one step. You must positively read. There is no royal road in this matter, any more than in the matter of prayer. If you cannot read yourself, you must persuade somebody else to read to you. But one way or another, through eyes or ears, the words of Scripture must actually pass before your mind.”

~ J.C. Ryle

This was my response and testimony

Years ago (when I was about 30 years old) when I had 3 or 4 children I had this insatiable urge to have read EVERY word in the Bible…….

I remember being in a meeting and seeing a preacher’s bible so marked/ noted/ underlined and USED……I was convicted but challenged……

I wanted to literally touch every page and write on it……I wanted a DIRTY (like well read) lively Bible, like a friend I write letters to, jotting thoughts ideas and even sermons……it sparked a challenge in my life

TO READ THE WHOLE BIBLE IN A YEAR, EVERY YEAR OVER AND OVER AND OVER……

I even wrote the date I started on the first page of the Old and New Testament each time….I became accountable to myself

I refuse to be legalistic and pedantic, but I really LOVE my challenge…….I am aware we serve a graceful God…….but there is something EMPOWERING when you can say you have read His Word numerous times cover to cover……….

I bought a wide margin bible so I could write my notes next to the verses. I also write sermon notes with the dates and name of the preacher in my margins……..so amazing to look back on…….

Do not get me wrong I have “failed” over the years (especially when a new baby was born-huh reading was hard through bleary eyes)- but I refused to give up nor come under condemnation….God knew my circumstances, but I was still burning to be a woman of the word…..so I plodded on……

12 years later I can look back and see how many times I have read my God’s love letter to me…….and realise I HAVE GROWN and with some satisfaction I HAVE DONE IT…Ryle was right you JUST GOTTA DO IT……….The Nike Revelation…heee heee………JUST DO IT!!!

There is power and life in the word, even when it is dry bickkies there are pockets of life and amazing insight ESPECIALLY when you see the BIG picture of the WHOLE bible, even bible geography and timelines marriages, generational problems begin to make sense…….

Please note dear ones I am telling you this not to brag or boast but to urge you to read, praying for hours was not an option for me not with kids hanging off me 24/7, I became the queen of the arrow prayers……….but I could read….. here is my reading plan

Each Day
3 of the Old
2 of the New
You’ll read the Bible the whole way through
(A Marilyn Hickey saying and oldy but a goody)

In 12 years I have read the Old Testament 7 times and the New Testament 8 times, this does not include extra study and reading a chapter each day to my children, ………..so I have aimed for the stars and hit the mountain top…BUT I JUST DID IT……

I did it whilst Homeschooling, I did it with 3-6 children, I did it whilst being a wife, I did it in pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond, I did it in hard times, I did it in good times………

Now looking back it was the BEST decision I ever made, I am who I am today because I JUST acted

You can “use” or “be used” by this busy time around babies kids and wifehood…….time will just fly by you especially while you are in the baby bearing season…so use this time to sow the Word into your life, there is lots we cannot do in the baby bearing season, but there are some things we can do. I pray we see the season and USE it wisely!

If you can read the Word during these days it will be like a seed……….. and this tiny seed the will burst into life 10 years down the track…….I am seeing this now in reality, and of course it helps your daily transformation too!!!!

So come on let’s get some Nike Revelation people……

JUST DO IT!!

What a year 2009 has been………

I look back and can say with a peace that “It is well with my soul”

I look back and remember my goals and aspirations and say that I am closer to them than I have ever been.

I look at my kids and say that they have grown, even in size………my 16 year old is now 6ft1in!!!

But they have grown in stature and in character……

My older two children preached their first gospel sermon this year

I saw my other children praying worshiping and touched by God in intercession and simple passion for God

I saw them struggle and deal with their flesh and change!

I saw our whole family grow and enlarge as we launched out as a family to Manila….we will never be the same…..NEVER

I saw my 10 year old achieve and earn his first trophy in Highland Dancing

I saw my 12 year old in uniform with South Australian Pipes and Drums and perform in various exclusive marches over the state

My 16 year old is ranked first in the state for side drumming

I saw my husband happy preaching and loving in Manila

I saw a resurrection of my Child Birth Education skills…not only in Manila but here in the Barossa where we fellowship

I see myself now enjoying the PARENTING and MENTORING side of my life emerging now

I saw a dear friend go to Jesus after a long struggle with a heart breaking disease

I experienced my first serious car accident

My 4 year old had her life turned upside down and my other kids learnt how to deal with it!

I saw babies live and I saw babies die

I felt useful and needed

I realised how much I love to Homeschool

I appreciated the freedom and diversity that my education choice gave me and my family and rejoiced in it!

I saw God

I learnt more about His love, His people and His calling

I saw the Body of Christ in action, every joint supplying

I learnt how to love my husband more and minister to his needs

I had moments of flesh despair and sometimes depression

I struggled to let Jesus be big when I wanted to let my flesh manifest

I felt sad and chastened at times

But exhilerated, excited and happy the others

This year was BIG,

This year was CHALLENGING,

This year was LIFE CHANGING

This year was a BENCH MARK

I do not think so? It is powerless

In the west however we have power, we have choice, we have money if it comes down to it!

It just depends on what we do when we see other’s reality and extend ourselves to DO something about it……

Truly that I think is our defining line.

The things that “we did and didn’t do” when we became aware of the reality……………….

This was one of my favourite classes……the ladies around here were so lovely and responsive

Gasungan is an area by the sea wall (River wall….ummmmm both!)

The houses are closely packed on sandy gritty soil with lots of water in wet season

They have an outdoor church, under a shelter that an Aussie team erected whilst we were there…..perfect for meetings, classes, even washing!!

The only downer was the flies……they were thick as there! Dunno why, just are.

Here are my ladies……….one of my ladies had 16 children and she looked a million bucks……amazing

Gasungan Church simple and humble…makes our churches seem gaudy

Built in benches and shelter from the sun and rain……..perfect for classes too

Classes range from formal to informal in a circle, I even play games with them!

This class was on breastfeeding, what is exciting is when the LIGHTS go on in the people’s eyes, when they understand what I am talking about.

This was very apparent as we talked about breastfeeding, especially the bans that they are NOT subject to in the Philippines…….they were amazed at the deception of the multinational companies and angered at the advocacy of infant formula. Rewarding indeed!!
